Hu Peng holds a bachelor's degree in Mechatronic Engineering from Chang’an University and a master's degree in Instrument and Meter Engineering from Xiamen University. Since November 2020, he has been a Ph.D. student in the group.
Hu's Ph.D. research focuses on the fabrication of three-dimensional microelectrode arrays (3D MEAs) to overcome the limitations of conventional planar MEAs in penetrating 3D biological systems. He employs various strategies, including inkjet printing, lithography, and soft lithography, to create these advanced 3D MEAs. His work has enabled applications such as nanoparticle detection and extracellular recordings in HL-1 cells. Additionally, in collaboration with the Institute of Neuroscience at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hu is working on implanting flexible 3D MEAs into mice and rats for invasive neural signal recording. This platform has the potential to record electrical signals across the brain.
