The simple question we are trying to answer in this first lecture will lead us from handwritings, image recognition, human computing, human genome project to black hole physics and some general aspects of data and information storage. Finally we will arrive at the restrictions and bottlenecks that the von-Neumann architecture is imposing on current memory technology.
