Sebastian started his academic journey at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich in 2016, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering. Recognized for his outstanding academic performance, he was awarded scholarships from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German Academic Scholarship Foundation) and the Max Weber Program by the Elitenetzwerk Bayern. Building upon his undergraduate studies, he continued his education at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2020, where he earned a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics.
For his doctoral studies, Sebastian joined the Neuroelectronics group at TUM in March 2023, supported by a doctoral scholarship from Studienstiftung. His research focuses on CRISPR-based digital biosensors using single-impact electrochemistry. This includes the development of novel nanoparticle labels and reporters, exploring different functionalization techniques, and translating the "digital readout" concept towards relevant real-world applications, pushing the boundaries of point-of-care biosensing.
