Modeling of greenhouse gas transport and diffusion in urban areas
We are carrying out computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from thermal power plants in urban environments. We validate these simulations by comparing the results with experimental measurements of column-averaged dry-air mole fractions of GHG (XGHG). We obtain GHG concentration maps for cities (e.g. Munich), leading to a better understanding of the GHG transport and diffusion in urban areas. These results also lead to the improvement of the design of experimental measurement campaigns.
WRF mesoscale modeling
We use mesoscale models (e.g., WRF-GHG, WRF-STILT, HYSPLIT-STILT) to simulate the column concentration of greenhouse gases, in collaboration with our Max Planck Institute and Harvard colleagues.
